Faster X-rays with Less Radiation
We now use digital X-rays here at East Berlin Smiles. Instead of the old bitewing films, we’re able to use a digital sensor to take the images. They go directly into our computer for immediate viewing. We also have panoramic digital X-rays that allow us to see the full structure of your jaw and all your teeth in just one image. These methods not only require no polluting chemicals for developing, they also result in 75% less radiation than the old form of X-rays.
The American Academy of Periodontology reports, “Studies found periodontal infection may contribute to the development of heart disease, increase the risk of premature, underweight births, and pose a serious threat to people whose health is already compromised due to diabetes and respiratory diseases.” The bacteria that cause gum disease, infecting the gums, can travel through the bloodstream to the heart and other vital organs.
Be a Full Participant in Treatment Decisions with the Intra-Oral Camera
Dr. Cockley loves working hand-in-hand with her patients so treatment decisions are fully understood. One of the high-tech tools she has to make this easier is called an intra-oral camera. A miniature, hand-held video camera allows you to see your teeth close up and in great detail. Then you know exactly where any problems lie and can tell which teeth are doing just fine. You’ll be a full partner in every dental decision!
SOPROLIFE™ Finds Tiny Cavities Far Sooner
Did you ever have a dental visit with no cavities but then at the next one, six months later, you need a filling that seems surprisingly large, given that you didn’t have a cavity before? The reality is that the cavity was there six months before – it just wasn’t big enough to show on X-rays, and it was also too small for the dentist to see yet. Using special fluorescence technology, SOPROLIFE can find cavities years earlier, when the cavity can be removed and repaired with a small invisible bonded filling. Some patients have complained of tooth sensitivity, or various levels of pain, yet exams and X-rays couldn’t pinpoint the source. Sensitivity toothpaste doesn’t help the problem. Dentists have even had to perform root canals to eliminate the pain or sensitivity, when the actual source turned out to be decay. SOPROLIFE can find previously undetected decay and, once identified, allow us to remove the discomfort and leave you with a healthy smile.
Isolite™ – Comfort and Improved Results
We are delighted to offer our patients a great technology that improves your comfort during dental procedures, and at the same time makes things easier for Dr. Cockley so you get great results and may even reduce your time in the chair! Isolite is a device that combines suction for a dry field with a brilliant light that eliminates shadows. Best of all, it helps keep your mouth open without making your jaw sore or tired! Your time in the chair can be reduced by about a third.
Ozone Treatment Reverses Tooth Decay
There is an exciting new treatment for dental decay that requires no change to the tooth structure, and we’re so pleased to be one of the first to offer it to you. The gas ozone (O3) is used to kill viruses, bacteria, and fungi within 40 seconds. You may be aware that it’s been used for many years to purify water and air. Once we’ve detected the presence of decay on or within the tooth’s surface, we use a special tool that directs ozone to the area to eliminate all the bacteria. Then the tooth is bathed in a re-mineralization fluid. This allows the tooth to heal without any shots or drilling, which means you feel absolutely no discomfort! Studies have shown fantastic results with almost all cavities being halted. Find out if ozone treatment is for you!
Your Teeth Never Felt So Clean!
Patients love the smooth, clean feeling of their teeth when they leave the dentist. We can make that feeling even better when we use the Piezo Scaler™ to remove deposits of plaque and tartar from your teeth, especially under the gumline. This hand tool uses high-frequency vibrations that help us remove tooth deposits faster than with regular scaling instruments. For gum disease, it even works in deep pockets. As a bonus, most patients report less discomfort with the Piezo Scaler.
Introducing Laser Treatment
Many treatments that normally require incisions with scalpels can now be completed with an FDA-approved soft tissue laser, which is effective, safe, and virtually eliminates pain. We are able to speed up recovery time and obtain better long-term results for the cosmetic treatment of uneven gummy smile lines, cleaning and re-contouring inflamed tissue around crowns, and treating painful canker sores and mouth ulcers with instant relief! All with virtually no post-op discomfort!
